Unusual Antique Edwardian 9ct Gold Carved Amethyst Pendant & 9ct Gold Chain 4.9g

Absolutely gorgeous and unique antique Edwardian pendant, quite a departure from the usual style of that era and showing, perhaps the beginnings of the Art Nouveau style with the naturalistic style, whiplash curves and foliate features. Hand-carved amethyst flower, accented with a natural seed pearl at its heart, is set against a ring of bright, buttery yellow 9ct gold. This is topped with the lovely, decorative swirl leading up to the bale. The piece is marked for 9ct on the reverse and has a maker's mark of H&N, believed to be Hollis & Newman of Tenby Street, Birmingham. There are no assay marks which is not unusual for a piece of this age. The pendant hangs from a fancy gold-link chain which is also marked for 9ct gold both on the chain itself and the barrel fastening. Pendant length including bale is 3.2cms and width is 2.4cms at the widest point. Total weight for the whole item is 4.9g. This would make a stunning gift for a February birthday featuring as it does that month's birthstone, but would also be appreciated by anyone who loves truly beautiful things.
