Large Victorian Carved Cameo Brooch Goddess Flora
DSC Fine and Decorative Art. Large Victorian Carved Cameo Brooch Goddess Flora. A beautifully carved cameo brooch depicting Flora, the Roman Goddess of Spring. Likely carved in Italy during the 2nd half of the 19th century, the brooch shows Flora wearing her characteristic crown of roses. Hanging down above her brow are young rose hips, the small fruit that begin to form in the early months of spring. The condition of the brooch is generally very good, though there are a few stress lines in the top right corner of the shell background. Additionally, areas of the 9-carat gold mount have worn over time. Size: 66 x 57 x 18mm Weight: 27g. Have a look at our other items.
