Finely carved antique Chinese carved Soapstone brush pot c1920

How it ended up in the Isle of Lewis is not clear but it may have been brought back by one of the many seamen from here who have worked onboard merchant vessels all around the world. Finely carved imagery showing a squirrel, foliage and fruit climbing up what is carved to resemble bamboo. The colouring of the stone is particularly nice. No cracks and no restoration. Size - measures 16cm high and the base is approximately 10cm in width.

This is a heavy item so for safety the vase will be packed in a strong box strengthened with sheet polystyrene. This is outside of my control and I only charge actual postal costs.
