Victorian Antique circa 1860 good quality Whitby Jet hand carved cameo depicting a high relief portrait of a Maenad, a female follower of Bacchus the god of wine, wearing vine leaves in her hair. The highly polished jet is an excellent example of the intricate designs of the Whitby artisans of the past and just like this piece their work remain as stunning today as they were nearly 150 years earlier.
