This eye appealing chair is beatifully proportioned and made. The top with a honeysuckle type central motif, pierced "C" scrolls and turned finials. The splat has a central panel with a triple carved anthemium pierced panel and a border of foliate scroll work all beautifully wrought. The back legs are turned with carved leafwork and paterae.
The seat rails and turned legs are shaped with more scroll work and detailing on the stretchers. The tapestry seat well worked and of good colour. This chair is probably a "one off" almost certainly made by a carver demonstrating his skill or a commission by a wealthy patron. The condition and colour are excellent commensurate with usage, age and images, just one tiny chip on the cresting. We can help arranging a courier.Height 36 inches/ 95.5 cms.
