Stunning Shell Cameo Brooch mounted in gold. It's an allegory on the day and the night, the goddesses of EOS and nyx. Already the classical antiquity knew these personifications of the Dawn Treader and the dark time of the day. You have as opposites always inspired artists and are part of the fine arts.
In this brooch, which is dated at 1890 they meet in day and night as sisters: the day left in the picture, looking forward, is blooming roses in her hair and wears a Peblos, the dress of women in classical antiquity. The sun is emblazoned on her breasts. However, the night, dreaming with your eyes closed, is shown behind the dawn: opium poppy adorns her hair and a Crescent Moon adorns her hidden head. Before the two goddesses, EOS & Nyx, other small attributes are vividly raised, Athena the Owl carrying more opium. A beautiful dream like quality to the whole piece.
